Annual Joint One-Day Conference

“Agricultural Trade and Brexit”
Monday, 12th March,2018, 9:30am – 5:30pm

Defra, Room 808 Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, Westminster, London SW1P 3JR

The theme of the Joint Defra-AES Conference is the agricultural trade issues that could follow from the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The provisional agenda can be viewed here.

Following the welcome and opening address by Defra a top line up of agricultural economists will present their research findings and offer views on this high priority issue, of crucial importance for the agri-food sector in the UK, the EU and other countries throughout the world.

The morning will focus on scenario analyses by various organisations and researchers of the potential impact on UK
agriculture.

Stimulated by the presentations and discussions in the morning, the afternoon will focus on some of the key  questions the UK faces as to its future trading regulations, partners and arrangements, including the role of potential non-tariff barriers and issues around existing preferential schemes.

The day will conclude with a discussion, questions and comments on issues raised throughout the day addressed by a panel of some of the UK’s key agricultural stake-holders and members of the economics profession - including reflections on research and data gaps that need to be undertaken by agricultural economists.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Please register as soon as possible for this key conference that brings together the latest research, as places are
limited. The full programme will be available shortly.
