The following are basic questions you may have about our privacy policy.

Why is AES updating its privacy policy?

AES is required to meet the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and have updated our privacy policy to reflect that.

What is the GDPR?
The GDPR is a regulation intended to strengthen and unify data protection for everyone within the European Union (EU). The GDPR requires greater openness and transparency from public authorities, private companies and third sector organisations on how they collect, store and use personal data, while also imposing tighter limits on the use of personal data. What information does AES collect about me?
AES collects your name, email address and postal address along with all the other data your supply when registering with the AES as a member.  AES does not store any data on your debit or credit card.  We do not store any banking details in any database. Any transactions you made either through your bank via BACS or cheque, or via our online payment gateway is provided by Securetrading who have their own separate privacy policy.

Why does AES need my information?
AES uses data to process your registration. We also use data to communicate with you, for example, informing you about the annual conference, job opportunities, funding available, and sometimes other types of updates.
 
How is my information used?

AES uses data for the following purposes:
  • Sharing your data with Wiley (the Society’s publishing partner) in order for you to gain access to the Journal or EuroChoices
  • Communicating with you about employment opportunities
  • Sending you the e-version of the Society’s Newsletter
  • Informing you about forthcoming AES events or conferences being organised by trusted equivalent learned societies
  • Processing AES Travel Awards grant applications
Does AES sell information to third parties?
No, we never have and do not intend to.

Can I opt out of sharing my information with AES?
Yes, you can opt-out of email communication and or and request that any data we have on you is  permanently deleted, please email secretariat@aes.ac.uk

How do I delete my personal data from AES and what are the consequences?
You can send us an email via secretariat@aes.ac.uk or contact the Secretariat by phone and request that your data be deleted. Please note, however, that by deleting your personal data you will not receive any
notifications from AES.
 
How long does AES keep my information?
AES retains personal data continually if you are an active member, the database is refreshed every 5 years when dormant accounts will be deleted.
 
How is information stored and secured on AES’ servers?
AES is committed to protecting the security of your personal data. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure. For example, we store the personal data you provide on computer systems that have limited access and are in controlled facilities.
 
Is AES using cookies?
Use of cookies, also known as browser cookies or tracking cookies, cookies are small, often encrypted text files, located in browser directories. They are used to help users navigate their websites efficiently and perform certain functions.

AES only uses cookies that collect data on the number of users and visitors to our website. We use this data so we can develop new and better services. The information we collect does not reveal any personal information about our users.

No, AES does not use internet-based advertising.
